Hunt Slonem

Hunt Slonem is a painter and sculptor who works out of an 89 room office space in New York City. Hunt Slonem graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1973 with a Bachelors of Art. Hunt Slonem paints abstract paintings with animal themes. His work consists of repeated animal forms, often birds, in bright colors. In Hunt Slonem's sculpture he employs the same repeated animal themes. This artist works in oils, watercolors, and sculpts in acrylic resin and wood. I looked for information on prices for some of his art, but all I could see was poster prices as the upper end art auction houses sell price information. If a poster of his work sells for $650 to $750 I can only imagine what his originals go for. Hunt Slonem’s art is described as neo-expressionist. My own opinion of Hunt Slonem's work is that it is very child-like and simplistic, even facile. While it displays more thematic form than an abstract, it has elements of abstract or primitive art. There’s no figuring the world of art. What sells is often a question of what people are willing to buy. If you are just starting out in your career as an artist, check out this man’s work. It should inspire you that your own work can have value.
