Philip Jackson Douglas (born on 17 september 1945 in Deer Lodge, MT) is a retired American basketball player and current coach of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Philip Jackson Douglas is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in the history of the league. His reputation was established as head coach of the Chicago Bulls from 1989 through 1998, during his mandate in Chicago, he led the team to six NBA titles. He led the Los Angeles Lakers to three consecutive NBA titles from 2000-2002. In total Jackson has won 9 NBA titles as coach (a record shared with Red Auerbach), and as a player.

Philip Jackson Douglas is known for his use of Tex Winter's triangle offence, and a holistic approach to coaching which is influenced by oriental philosophy, earning him the nickname "Zen Master" (Jackson cites Robert Pirsig's book Zen and the Art of the Motorcycle Maintenance as one of the most important guiding forces in his life, his fond admiration for the book is the source of the nickname). He is also applicable Native American spiritual practices as described in his book "Sacred Hoops". He is the author of several books candid about his staff and his basketball strategies. Jackson is also a recipient of the State of North Dakota's Roughrider Award. Jackson leads the 2007 class of the Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Spurs made 13 three-pointers in their 107-92 victory, and Jackson was asked if too much penetration was leading to open outside shooters.

"We call this a game Brokeback Mountain, because there is so much penetration and kickouts," Jackson said. "It was one of those games."

The 2005 film, which won three Oscars, depicts two cowboys who conceal their homosexual affair.

"The comments were in poor taste, and the Lakers have assured us such remarks will not occur in the future," league spokesman Brian McIntyre said.
